Also known as "The Relaxation Mineral". Magnesium is an essential mineral involved in many physiological pathways including energy production. Magnesium deficiency has been associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, high blood pressure and type II diabetes. Magnesium is required for active transport of ions such as potassium and calcium to cross cell membranes affecting the conduction of nerve impulses, muscle contraction and normal heart rhythm.
